Payment method exclusions: why your deposit might not get the bonus
Payment method exclusions are terms that stop certain ways of paying from qualifying for a casino bonus. Deposit with an excluded method and the payment goes through, but the bonus or free spins never arrive. Here is how payment method exclusions work, which methods are most often affected, and how to check before you deposit.
What payment method exclusions are
Most UK casinos accept several payment methods, such as debit cards, PayPal, other e-wallets, Apple Pay, bank transfer and prepaid vouchers. A bonus, though, is a separate promotion with its own terms. Those terms can say that deposits made with some methods do not count towards the offer.
The exclusion only affects the bonus. Your money still arrives in your account as normal, and you can play with it or withdraw it.
Which payment methods are often excluded?
Every casino sets its own list, but the methods named most often in UK bonus terms are:
- E-wallets such as Skrill and Neteller.
- Prepaid vouchers and cards such as Paysafecard.
- PayPal on some offers, although many casinos accept it.
Debit cards are rarely excluded, which is why they are the safest choice for a welcome offer. Credit cards cannot be used for gambling in Great Britain at all. That ban has applied since 14 April 2020.
Why casinos use payment method exclusions
Casinos don’t always explain the reason, but exclusions are usually linked to bonus abuse and costs. Some payment methods make it easier to open several accounts or are more expensive for the casino to process. Excluding them from promotions limits that risk while still letting customers deposit.
How to check before you deposit
- Open the full terms of the offer, not just the headline.
- Search the page for words such as “excluded”, “e-wallet”, “Skrill”, “Neteller”, “PayPal” or “Paysafecard”.
- Check whether the rule covers only the first deposit or every qualifying deposit.
- Choose a payment method that qualifies before you start the deposit.
- After depositing, check that the bonus or spins appear before you play.

What if you used an excluded method?
In most cases the casino cannot add the bonus afterwards, because the deposit didn’t meet the terms. It is still worth contacting customer support straight away, before you play, to ask. Don’t open a second account to try again. One account per person is a standard rule, and breaking it can mean losing winnings.
Remember that withdrawals usually go back to the method you deposited with, so pick one you are happy to use both ways. Our guide to casino withdrawals covers timings and checks, and casino payment methods compares the main options.
Payment method exclusions and bonus value
A qualifying deposit is only the first step. The value of the offer still depends on the wagering, which can be no more than 10 times in Great Britain since 19 January 2026, plus the expiry date and game rules. Our guides to bonus expiry and bonus win caps explain those limits. For a full walk-through of what to check, see the casino deal checklist.
Payment method exclusion FAQs
Can I still deposit with an excluded payment method?
Yes. The deposit works as normal. You just won’t receive the bonus linked to it.
Is PayPal excluded from casino bonuses?
Sometimes. Many UK casinos accept PayPal for welcome offers, but some don’t. The offer terms will say.
Can I use a credit card for a casino bonus?
No. Credit cards have been banned for gambling in Great Britain since April 2020.
Will the casino add the bonus if I made a mistake?
Usually not, but contact support before you play. Some casinos will look at it case by case.
