Bonus opt in: how to make sure you get the casino offer you wanted
A bonus opt in is the step that tells a casino you want a particular offer. Miss it and you can deposit, play and end up with no bonus at all. Here is what a bonus opt in looks like, the different ways casinos ask for it, the timing that catches people out and what to do if your bonus doesn’t appear. 18+.
What a bonus opt in is
Some offers are added to your account automatically. Others only apply if you actively choose them. That choice is the opt-in. It protects you as well as the casino, since a bonus comes with rules that you may not want on your balance.
The common ways to opt in
- A tick box at sign-up or deposit. It is often near the deposit amount, and it may be ticked or unticked by default.
- A claim button. You press this on the promotions page or in a pop-up.
- A promo code. Entering it is the opt-in, and it may have to go in before you deposit.
- A choice of offers. At the cashier you may pick from a list, including no bonus.
- An SMS or email link. Existing customers may be asked to reply or click through.
The offer terms say which one applies. Our offer pages list the steps we know about, but the casino’s own terms decide.
When to complete the bonus opt in
Timing is the main trap. Many terms say you must opt in before your qualifying deposit, so opting in afterwards doesn’t count. Others give you a set period after registering, or ask you to play within a certain time. If an offer has an expiry, the clock may start when you opt in or when the bonus is credited. Bonus expiry explains how those deadlines work.
What to check before you deposit
- Is the opt-in done, and can you see it on screen?
- Does the minimum deposit match what you plan to pay in?
- Is your payment method allowed for this offer?
- Do you want the bonus rules at all? No-bonus play can suit you better.
Bonus opt in vs marketing consent
Choosing a bonus isn’t the same as agreeing to marketing. A marketing tick box controls whether a casino can send you emails, texts or calls, while a bonus opt-in applies an offer to your account. Sometimes an offer for existing customers only reaches you if you accept marketing, but a welcome offer should say clearly what it needs. You can change your marketing choices in your account settings at any time.
If your bonus doesn’t appear
- Check the promotions or bonus section of your account, as some offers need you to accept them there.
- Read the terms again for the opt-in, deposit and payment rules.
- Contact customer support before you start playing, and send a screenshot if you have one.
Casinos can’t always add a bonus afterwards, particularly if you have already played through the deposit. Stopping early gives you the best chance of putting it right.
Bonus opt in FAQs
Do I have to take a casino bonus?
No. You can normally play without one. Leave the offer unticked or choose no bonus at the cashier.
Can I opt out after opting in?
Usually, yes. You can normally forfeit a bonus in your account, though you lose the bonus funds.
Can I opt in to two offers at once?
It depends on the casino. Many allow one active bonus at a time, and a second may wait in a queue.
Does opting in cost anything?
No, but the offer may need a deposit and it comes with terms, so read them first.
